To help you become more familiar with the area, we are planning to expand our video content.

Look at the Driving Tour page for YouTube videos that will take you on a ride around town. We'll be adding to the list, so check back from time to time. If you have area area you'd like to see, let me know and I'll see if I can post a tour for you. Chances are that if you have an interest in specific elements of Miami, then others will be interested as well.

Do you like art? Well, there are several dozen galleries in the area. You can click on the links or visit MiamiArtOnline for more information. The site currently features a video interview with William Braemer of Art Fusion in the Miami Design District.

One of my favorite galleries is the Jakmel Art & Cultural Center in the Wynwood Art District of Miami. I recorded this video on 29 December 2007 and put it on YouTube. It's five minutes long: Night of the Drum.

Connecting the Dots
Well, Gary Levine is at it again. Gary, for those of you who don't know, is the guy who built his dream, and sold it to the Neptune Society. It's a long story. A story about eternity, the ocean and artificial reefs.

Gary's idea was called the Atlantis Memorial Reef. When I first met him in the summer of 2003, he had a dozen storyboards with line drawing of columns, domes, arches and statues for an underwater world that would be the gateway to the afterlife. It took him more than three years to obtain the permits, and sell the majority interest to the company that owns the Neptune Society.

I had lunch with Gary and he said he is working on a new project. He said he wants to connect the ships in the Key Biscayne Special Management Zone with an array of 'living circles,' a mix of concrete and coral rock that will provide habitat for small fish and some protection for the ships that have been sunk as artificial reefs by Miami-Dade County's Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM).

More on this later...

Art of Tourism
Art Basel Miami Beach officially began December 6th. According to the Miami Herald, show organizers estimate that more than 43,000 people attended the event by end of the day on December 9th.

I think there were many thousand more, since satellite fairs such as Red Dot, Flow, Bridge and Aqua, all on Miami Beach, do not report attendance figures to the Art Basel management.

On top of that, the galleries in the Wynwood Art District and the Miami Design District were extremely busy each evening.

As busy as I thought I was, I didn't see it all. I did make a brief appearance at ScopeMiami and Art Miami, but missed Pulse and the Photo Shows.

For more information, check out Miami Art Online, where you'll find links to several post-Basel reports, video clips and photo's I took while exploring the area by foot and pedi-cab.

The Rhythm of the Ocean
At the southern end of Miami Beach is one of the more interesting oceanfront restaurants called Cafe Nikki. Every Sunday, from December thru April, DJ JP Rigaud provides the rhythm, a mix of house, club, downtempo, chillout, breakbeat and Nu-Jazz.

Concerts, ranging from classical to country are available in South Florida. Fine & Casual Dining showcase an international cuisine. And shopping, well, you can find everything form designer fashion to ethnic markets.

Miami has the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, along with an ambitious plan to develop a prime piece of waterfront property into a cultural arts area.
